A modest turnout but quite an action-packed meeting nonetheless. Xian brought his APRS treasure hunt generator, more about that elsewhere. I brought my RadTel 950Pro which I’d not used with APRS before and successfully used it to track the treasure hunters.
We worked with Rakesh on his FT8 issues but with only partial success as the bands were dying and we found a quirk with his FT-950 in that switching to PKT mode on 40m forces it to LSB despite FT8 being USB.
We had some interference from pirates on the 2m calling channel – a nearby father and daughter appear to have acquired some radios (probably the dreaded Baofengs) set to that frequency and seemed unaware of the nature of the band. They didn’t respond in any way to announcements on the channel so probably have a tone selected too leaving us wondering how and why?
The next meeting is online, just next Tuesday due to the short month. In future should we be advised that the school room is unavailable on the third Tuesday we’ll swap the meetings round to prevent clashes in people’s calendars.
